WHO Policy Dialogue: Implementation results of the Moldavian tobacco control law


On December 5-6, the Parliament of Moldova hosted a policy dialogue on the subject of implementation of the Law on Tobacco Control and the experience of countries in the European Region of the World Health Organization (WHO). The event involved the leadership of parliament, deputies, representatives of Government, academia, civil society and development partners.
The event allowed for discussing implementation results of the Moldavian Tobacco Control Law as well as experiences of other countries from the WHO European Region, and to establish the next steps directed to strengthen enforcement of tobacco control legislation.
WHO representative in Moldova, Haris Hajrulahovic praised Moldova’s progress in implementing tobacco control policies and said that they have a positive impact not only on health, but also contributes to the economic development of the country. “Studies on the economic impact of legislation banning smoking in public places, made in different countries of the world have shown this positive effect,” he said.
