    Bucharest Declaration on Human Rights and a Tobacco Free Europe

      The 4th ENSP – SRP International Conference on Tobacco Control 2019was held from 27 to 29 of March 2019 in Bucharest, Romania.  This year’s main theme was “Tomorrow’s sustainable development starts now – time toaccelerate tobacco control!”. The message was strongly supported by H.E. Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis who opened the Conference along with the Head of Secretariat of the WHO FCTCVera Luiza de Costa e Silva.     Lithuania: Legal response to the challenges of novel tobacco products

      On 25 February, an international expert seminar was organised by the ENSP and National Tobacco and Alcohol Control Coalition (NTAKK) in the Lithuanian Parliament in Vilnius. With the presence of Minister of Health Prof. Aurelijus Veriga and participation  of national officials, international experts, representatives of NGOs, legal changes imposed by novel products were discussed.     On January 29, Romanian Christian democrat MEP Cristian-Silviu Bușoi organised a seminar discussion titled “Where does the parallel trade of tobacco come from?     Experts Position to advance Tobacco Control policies in Italy

    European Parliament, Brussels, 4 December 2018   According to the World Health Organization, tobacco consumption is worldwide the leading cause of avoidable deaths from cancer, respiratory, and cardiovascular diseases. Tobacco market in Italy from 2000 up to now, recorded a 27% reduction in consumption of manufactured tobacco cigarettes, and a 10% increase of Roll-Your-Own (RYO) cigarettes.     ENSP strongly supports plain packaging as an effective measure for combatting tobacco consumption. While scientific evidence shows that plain packaging has a positive impact on public health, the WHO FCTC and the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) provide legal frameworks for introducing plain packaging. ENSP therefore encourages all EU Member States to introduce plain packaging and to evaluate the results of the implementation in their population.     ENSP Event

    On 19-21 October 2016, ENSP held a successful annual Capacity Building Event and Network Meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia. More than 90 ENSP members, partners and regional stakeholders participated in the three-day conference and workshop in Ljubljana focusing on tobacco industry interference, implementation of the TPD and plain packaging measures across Europe, youth advocacy in tobacco and much more.
